When Maurice "Rocket" Richard notched his 50th goal in 1945, he established a scoring threshold that still remains a gold standard for NHL players, and for many years it was thought of as a record that couldn't be beaten. Bobby Hull, the young "Golden Jet", proved otherwise when on March 12, 1966 he scored his 51st goal of the season to finally best Richard's hallowed total. Playing against the New York Rangers, before a packed house of 22,000 Black Hawk fans at the Chicago Stadium, Hull blasted a slap shot past Rangers goalie Cesare Maniago, sending the crowd into a frenzy and earning him a seven minute long standing ovation. He would go on to set a new record of 54 goals by season's end, and ultimately score 50 or more goals five times in his Hall of Fame career. This lot includes the complete program from that eventful evening, in sharp EX/NM condition, along with a rare ticket stub (EX+ with two tiny staple holes) and a complete sports section from the March 14, 1966 edition of the Montreal Gazette newspaper (Ex/Nm), featuring Hull's great feat on its front page.
