Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
You know you’re a pretty big deal when they name not just one but two major awards in your honor. Frank Calder, the NHL’s first president, served from the league’s founding in 1917 until his death on February 4, 1943. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 1947, Calder’s legacy includes the Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s rookie of the year, and the Calder Cup, the American Hockey League’s playoff championship trophy. Superb Calder framed photo dates from the 1930s with the venerable NHL president bending someone’s ear on the other end of the phone line, who’s to say, maybe it was Lester Patrick, Conn Smythe or Leo Dandurand getting an earful! Wonderfully-preserved original portrait displays to about 9 1/2" x 7 1/2" within a beige matte as mounted in a 14” x 11 1/2" black wood frame.
