Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Amazing Toronto Maple Leafs team-signed stick is autographed by 23 members of the 1939-40 Leafs, including coaching legend Dick Irvin and fellow deceased HOFers Turk Broda, Gordie Drillon, Syl Apps, Red Horner and Sweeney Schriner. In their sixth trip to the Stanley Cup final in eight years, the Maple Leafs lost to the Rangers in six games. Irvin and Horner drank from the Cup in 1932 and Apps and Broda led the Leafs' dynasty of the 1940s. Their signatures are among the pencil autographs that run all along one side of the shaft of this vintage stick with the "Love & Bennett Maple Leaf Gardens Toronto" stamped low on both sides of the shaft. All set for a worthy Leafs shrine! Moving upwards from the bottom of the shaft the stick is signed in order by the likes of Stanowski, Chisholm, Apps, Kampman, Goldup, Horner, Daly, Davidson, Nick Metz, Church, Heron, Broda, Marker, Drillon, McDonald, Hamilton, Stein, Irvin, Langelle, Chamberlain, Kelly and Schriner. What appears to be a child’s name is written above Kampman’s signature. There is a metal plaque affixed to the top of the shaft with no discernible engraving and the blade has some cracks that do not diminish the stick’s display.
