Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
The earliest and probably the nicest Terry Sawchuk stick we have had the pleasure of offering is this amazing team-signed 1949-50 AHL Indianapolis Capitals Northland gamer. The deceased HOFer has signed on the paddle of his Northland Pro game-used stick with a bold and misspelled "Sawchuck" stamp on the shaft. The goaltending legend's original tape jobs remain on the blade, paddle and knob. Sawchuk's has signed in what appears to be ink in a faded but legible autograph along with two others on the front, including Capitals scoring leader Pat Lundy. Longtime Red Wings trainer and Sawchuk mask maker Lefty Wilson is among the other signatures in various pens on the other side. A solid beauty with nice wear on the bottom edge of the blade's tape job and a small gouge on the bottom edge of the paddle. Among the other 1949-50 Capitals autographs are Ott Heller, Jerry Reid, Doug McKay, Lyall Wiseman, Nels Podolsky, Al Dewsbury, Jim Uniac and Rod and Don Morrison. Sawchuk who would soon be a shining star in Detroit, dressed-up for the big club, the Detroit Red Wings, for seven games during the 1949-50 season. [red] Addendum; The stick offered in this lot was produced by Northland and distributed by the Lippman's and Tools Company from Detroit who was the official equipment supplier of the Red Wings back in the 1950s and it is properly stamped on the side of the stick by that company, we have added photos showing the stamp, the stick offered in this auction is identical to what Sawchuk would have used during the games played in Detroit in 1949-50.[/red]
