Meet one of the sticks that scared the life out of the enemy, a game-used Northland stick Gordie Howe from the mid-1960s, probably the '64-'65 campaign, and features Howe's original tape jobs on both the knob and blade, with "Howe" stamped on the upper blade and a handwritten "9" closer to the knob. This gamer shows great game use, with marks scattered from the top of the shaft down to tip of the blade. Gordie has signed "Gordie Howe" in clear black marker on the upper shaft, while on the other side is the signatures of goaltender Carl Wetzel, who played 2 games in the '64-'65 season, and John Mitchell, the Wings' PR director at that time. Stamped on the upper part of the shaft is “Olympic Sporting Goods Co. Detroit, Michigan, while handwritten below the Howe text is "Beat Montreal", which according to information received, this is the stick used by Gordie in the last home game of the 1964-65 season against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Detroit to beat Montreal for the league championship.
