Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012

Ultra-desirable offering here features Didier Pitre, the idol of French-Canadian hockey followers of the era and the first player signed by Jack Laviolette when the latter assembled the first Montreal Canadiens team in 1909! The two had played together in the International Pro League, then on defence for the Montreal Shamrocks, before the founding of the Canadiens. They later moved up to forward to form a line with Newsy Lalonde, with right winger Pitre leading the NHA in scoring in 1915-16, before helping the Canadiens to their first of 24 Stanley Cups. It's inspiring to look at the Hall-of-Famer, pictured here on card #41 of the coveted Sweet Caporal postcard set of 1910-11. This example has been graded VG-EX 4 by PSA, with the company only having graded one other Pitre postcard higher.
