Val Fonteyne saw action in 820 tilts with the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins before moving over to spend a couple of seasons in the WHA with the Oilers. As a member of the Penguins in 1968-69, Val posted a 29-point performance over 74 games. The original round skating penguin crest "makes" this jersey! White durene tie-neck style uniform tagged in the neck by All Star Sports with the frayed size "44" fly tag hanging below and washed-out late-1960s white General Athletic tag in the hem. This highly sought-after style was worn by National Hockey League regular Val Fonteyne circa the 1968-69 season. Val's number "8" appears on the back in dual-layer tackle twill and similar, but smaller, numerals sit high up on each sleeve. The shirt appears well-washed with no evidence of a crest change. Game wear on this one includes some nice stick marks on the front, a few scuffs and a small area of paint transfer on the arms and noticeable interior pilling. No ugly runs here! The old-style garter fight strap in there in the tail. A perfect second year Pens uniform. Originally purchased directly from Val Fonteyne and will come with a letter of authenticity from Classic Auctions.
