Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011

Wow! This great early 1970s Boston Bruins jersey was originally sold as a Bobby Orr game-worn jersey years ago and just recently resurfaced in the hobby. We now know for a fact that the jersey has had a number change, the original number sewn on the back and sleeves of this jersey was a "6" and we believe the jersey was originally worn by Ted Green, the Bruins’ alternate captain at that time. The jersey is loaded with team repairs and shows gorgeous game wear, most probably all from Green’s use. We count over a dozen team repairs, mostly circular sewing fixes on the sleeve and front tail. The jersey was changed to a number "4" and the sewing was certainly done by the Bruins’ equipment staff. The stitching for the numbers on the back and sleeves is exactly the same as numbers on the team’s game-worn jersey from that era and was done identically to any other Bruins numbers from the period. Because the number change was done in such a professional manner and because Bobby Orr didn’t become a full Bruins alternate captain until the 1973-74 season, we have reason to believe this jersey might have been recycled by the Bruins during the 1971-72 or 1972-73 season when they needed a temporary alternate captain, either because Green was injured or simply because the jersey was available after Green jumped to the New England Whalers for the WHA’s inaugural season. For all these reasons, we believe the great Bobby Orr may once have worn this fantastic early 1970s Boston Bruins game-worn number "4" jersey. May the lucky winner of the auction get an Orr game-worn jersey for the price of a Ted Green gamer!
