Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

Offered here is a striking white Team Russia 2010 Olympics jersey. Led by NHL scoring stars Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin and Ilya Kovalchuk, Russia figured to be the favorite to challenge Olympic hosts Canada for gold at the 2010 men’s hockey tournament in Vancouver.
Despite a shootout loss to Slovakia, Russia finished the round robin phase atop the Group B standing to earn a bye. Canada, however, finished second in its group and was forced to play a qualification game, an 8-2 win over Germany. That set up a quarter-final summit meeting between Russia and Canada, the same scenario the two hockey powers encountered four years earlier in Turin. Winners of a 2-0 shutout over Canada in 2006, Russia suffered a surprisingly early exit from the Vancouver 2010 tournament with a 7-3 loss in front of a partisan Canada Hockey Place crowd.
Featuring sublimated graphics on the sleeves and all around the tail, this Nike jersey is made of an advanced polyester-spandex hybrid fabric. A full-color Russian Federation crest embroidered onto a white twill patch is sewn on the front, with “Russia” spelled out beneath it in sewn-on, red-and-blue Cyrillic letters. Numbers are sewn-on double twill. A blue Nike logo is sewn on the right breast, and IIHF Authentic Collection tagging is sewn in the back of the neck, which also features a Nike logo, the jersey size, and “Made in Canada, Fait Au Canada” screened in black. A Team Nike inventory bar code is heat-pressed onto the inner rear hem. Made game-ready and issued to the team, this Team Russia jersey was ready for use though it did not see any duty during the 2010 Olympics.
As backup to netminder Evgeni Nabakov, Ilya Bryzgalov saw action in two of the games contested by Team Russia at the 2010 Winter Olympics. His GAA came in at 1.78 as he let in just three goals over 100 minutes of play. Ilya's huge size 58 uniform, made up for him but not worn, has billowing sleeves and his number "30" on the back. Comes with an LOA.
