Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Thought-provoking find of century-old lacrosse cards brings forth the story of how hockey legend Edouard "Newsy" Lalonde also excelled at lacrosse. In 1950, Lalonde was named Canada's outstanding lacrosse player of the half-century and many experts felt he was the premier performer in both sports! Newsy's 1911 C56 #100 card here is graded VG 3 by SGC, which deemed his 1912 C61 issue (#21) a rather lofty EX+ 5.5. A raw example (P-F) is among 43 (all different) cards from 1911, highlighted by the presence of Hall of Fame goaltender Paddy Moran (#75 - VG-EX). Condition averages VG, with 15 black and white cards from 1912 similar. Problem-free backs throughout and swell pieces of Canadian sports history.
