Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Striking heavy black and orange wool uniform from the Baltimore Clippers of the American Hockey League. This early Sixties-vintage sweater features two-tone tackle twill drop-shadow number "16" high up on the back with smaller single-layer numbers on the sleeves. The chest sports a beautiful embroidered canvas crest with a skating ship's captain and the team name. The vintage tie-neck uniform is tagged in the neck by Gerry Cosby with a size 48 tag sewn to the side. Game wear is fantastic with at least 24 team repairs on the arms two additional repairs on the lower back. We spot the residue from an "A" up on the chest that has been removed and our research shows that George Ford wore the number in 1962-63 and we believe this sweater is from that year, the team's inaugural AHL season. From the days when some of the game's top talents played out their entire careers in the American Hockey League. [red] ADDENDUM; Please note that the AHL Baltimore Clippers wore this style sweater with that specific crest only during their first year in the league in 1962-63, this is game worn jersey from their inaugural season.[/red]
