Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Scarce and highly-sought-after style worn by Ron Jones for the Pittsburgh Penguins throughout the 1973-74 National Hockey League season. Jones, a towering defender from Vermillion, Alberta, played in just 25 games that year for the Pens, adding another 34 games down in the American League with the Bears in Hershey. The letters forming Ron's surname are no longer there on the back but glue residue and evidence of the former name bar are still there. The single-layer tackle twill number "6" appears just below and again on each upper arm. The black, white and gold embroidered skating penguin crest is centered at the chest and the jersey is splattered throughout with what appears to be blood staining with a large area on the left sleeve and more over the front and back. The original tie-neck lace is there as is the large rectangular Rawlings label in the lower hem in size 50 with a washing instructions tag sewn there as well. A glance inside the tail reveals a garter-style fight strap. Prices have been sky-rocketing for these old durene Pittsburgh Penguins gamers from the early to mid Seventies.
