Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Four real diamonds punctuate the face of this stunning gold 1991 Canada Cup ring with the half-leaf logo encircled by the words "Coupe Canada Cup". Inside the band is the manufacturer's stamping with the "10K" assayer's mark. A seldom-seen smooth-shank style which was presented to non-players such as sportswriters who covered the historic event. Size 10-1/2 and in excellent condition, showing very little wear and in its original presentation box, it recalls the last of five Canada Cup tournaments, one which saw the United States ice its best team ever to that point and Canada reaffirm its dominance of international hockey, beating the U.S. 4-1 and 4-2 to sweep the finals. It was goaltender Bill Ranford's finest hour as he went undefeated (6-0-2) while posting a 1.75 goals-against-average. Nice!
