Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
1945 Playoff hero Frank McCool's signature appears on this incredible vintage wood mini stick along with those of hockey greats Bill Durnan, Maurice Richard, Ted Kennedy, Happy Day, Buddy O'Connor, Toe Blake and Elmer Lach, to name but a few. "Souvenir Victory Dinner, Toronto Maple Leafs, World Champions 1945" is stamped on the blade of the stick on the side of the shaft that is covered with signatures from the Maple Leafs, who knocked off the Habs in six games in the semi-finals before going on to beat Detroit in a seven-game final. McCool shut out Montreal in the playoff opener and blanked the Red Wings in each of the first three games of the final. Kennedy, Schriner, Davidson, Stanowski, O'Neill and Hill signatures are intact, if somewhat faded. Day's autograph is smudged and the "l" in McCool's last name has been traced over in blue ink. The entire Hamilton, McLean, Bodnar, Jackson, Johnstone signatures were traced over and the Pratt, Morris and McCreedy autographs were partially traced over. Durnan has signed the tip of the reverse of the blade, followed by the likes of Lamoureux, Blake, Lach, Richard, Hiller, O'Connor, Benoit, Reay, Riopelle, Eddolls, Harmon and Bouchard moving up the shaft.
