A sprawling Bill Barilko netted the overtime game winner that captured the Stanley Cup for the Leafs at the close of the 1950-51 season. Barilko would never play another game as he disappeared soon after while on a fishing trip. As the story of the Barilko curse goes, the team did not win another championship until 1962, the year Bill's body was discovered in the wreckage of his airplane. This ancient game stick is covered in the vintage signatures of Bill Barilko and his teammates from the 1948-49 Stanley Cup Championship team. Harry Watson Joe Klukay, Billy Barilko, Max Bentley, Ted Kennedy, Howie Meeker, Harry Taylor, Sid Smith, Tod Sloan, Don Metz, Bill Ezinicki... they are all here along the rare and valuable sig of goaltender Turk Broda. The stick is a gamer, fully taped and used by number "23" according to the player number stamp up on the shaft. Our records show the number being worn by Bob Dawes who played in all 9 playoff games and only 5 of the regular season tilts. Best is the Brown's Sports and Love & Bennett supplier stamps. Nineteen sigs in total in varying conditions. Most are quite legible but a few are more difficult to discern.
