The 1936-37 Detroit Red Wings became the first American team to win the Stanley Cup in consecutive seasons. This remarkable original team picture of the two-time champions was taken by Red Wings photographer Albert E. Backlund. Detroit's winged wheel team crest and those of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Maroons and the Boston Bruins appear in sharp detail in the background of the photo that shows members of the team lined up in two rows on the ice of the Olympia. Franks, Mackie, Hec Kilrea, Lewis, Bruneteau, Young, Adams, Norris, Aurie, Howe, Wally Kilrea and Robertson are seated from left to right in the front row. Standing behind them are Walker, Kelly, Sherf, McDonald, Sorrell, Gallagher, Pettinger, Goodfellow, Roulston, Barry, Bowman, Mattson and Smith. This vintage 10" x 14" print has pin holes in each of its four corners and there is some soiling to note in the foreground, though overall this incredible photo remains in excellent condition. "1936-37 American Division Champs, Stanley Cup Winners" is handwritten in black ink on the upper left corner of the reverse which exhibits traces along the bottom of having been removed from where it was previously glued in place.
