Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Montreal Canadiens captain Henri Richard had just won his record 11th Stanley Cup when he signed this NHL standard player's contract in the spring of 1973. League president Clarence Campbell signed on the front of the Pocket Rocket's two-year deal with the Habs, which would prove to be the hockey legend's final contract. The deceased HOFer's initial also appears above the NHL office date stamp. The contract called for a $60,000 salary for both the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons, as well as a lump sum bonus of $150,000 upon Richard's retirement "in recognition of long service". Richard signed in blue ink beneath the signature of Canadiens president Jacques Courtois on the bottom of the reverse of the contract dated June 7, 1973. A small tear in the middle of the top edge of the contract and staple holes on the left side just above the fold are to note on this original Henri Richard Montreal Canadiens NHL contract that remains in excellent condition.
