Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Legendary Montreal Canadiens goalie Bill Durnan had already claimed an Allan Cup title in 1940 with the Kirkland Lake Blue Devils by the time he finally launched his great NHL career in 1943-44. Offered here are two great pieces of memorabilia from Kirkland Lake's Allan Cup win over the Calgary Stampeders, including an unawarded championship medallion that reads "Commemorating Lake Shore Blue Devils, Winners of Allan Cup, Kirkland Lake 1940". This unawarded charm measures roughly 1 1/2" x 1" and has a blank, unengraved reverse. Also featured is a complete and intact original Maple Leaf Garden program with Durnan listed in the Kirkland Lake lineup in the centerfold team rosters insert for the April 20, 1940 Allan Cup game. A modern print of the 1940 Kirkland Lake team photo rounds out this great Bill Durnan lot.
