Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Offered here is the Hockey Hall of Fame framed crest that was presented to the family of Montreal Canadiens legend Howie Morenz. Featured among the Hall's inaugural class of 1945, Morenz was the NHL's superstar attraction during the Roaring 1920s and on into the early years of the next decade before his tragic death in 1937. A three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Canadiens, the Stratford Streak had his #7 retired by the team following his sudden passing in his hospital bed at the age of 34. The Hockey Hall of Fame presented these initial framed crests in the late 1950s. "Howarth W. 'Howie' Morenz, Elected April 1945" is engraved on a brass plate attached to the bottom of the frame, which measures just over 7 1/2" square. A letter of authenticity accompanies this historic Howie Morenz Hall of Fame framed crest.
