Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

A magnificent miniature Stanley Cup was presented to Murray Wilson after he helped lead the Montreal Canadiens back to the NHL winners' circle in May of 1973. After their unexpected Cup victory two years earlier, the Canadiens were ousted in the quarter-finals by a strong Rangers team in 1972, but responded by being the class of the league in '72-73. The Habs disposed of the Sabres (6 games) and Flyers (5 games) before beating the Black Hawks in six, with Yvan Cournoyer scoring the Cup-winner. The names of the men who brought another Stanley Cup parade to Montreal are engraved on the barrel of this tantalizing trophy. Newcomers Robinson, Lafleur and Shutt, as well as head coach Scotty Bowman, are there for the first time and altogether 14 Hall-of-Famers can be spotted, along with the supporting cast. The silver-plated trophy remains in strong excellent-plus condition and Murray tells us that this example was produced at his request in 1987 to replace his stolen original trophy. From the personal collection of Murray Wilson with his signed letter of authenticity.
