Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
A great pair of individual goalie awards, these two trophies were originally presented to Norm Defelice, who stepped in to defend the Boston Bruins' net midway through the 1956-57 season when Terry Sawchuk was hospitalized because of nervous exhaustion. Defelice, who appeared in 10 games with the Bruins, went on to star in the Eastern Hockey League, winning the George L. Davis Award as the league's top goalie six of seven seasons with the Clinton Comets from 1958-65. Offered here is Defelice's personal George L. Davis Award for the 1958-59 season, featuring a player statue on an 18" x 5" black wood base with an engraved plaque attached to the front with the trophy's and Defelice's names. A round wood panel attached to the back that gives the trophy an overall height of 13 1/2". Also included is Defelice's personal replica of the Turofsky Trophy he won as the OHA Senior A league's leading goalie with the 1967-68 Galt Hornets. The award features an engraved plaque on the front of a 3" tall, 5 5/8" square wood base with a 7" tall player statue that brings the trophy's height to just over 10" overall. Great pair of individual trophies presented to the goalie that stepped in for the legendary Terry Sawchuk.
