Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
The note contained within this simple wooden box tells the tale. It reads, in part: "The accompanying souvenirs are intended to mark the scoring of your 200th goal and they are accompanied by sincere admiration of your splendid leadership, your gentlemanly conduct always on and off the ice. Sincerely, an Old Fan". What a tribute! And inside, an amazing hoard of 200 Canadian silver one-dollar coins, each dated 1953 to mark the year Kennedy accomplished the feat. With silver prices currently over $18.00 an ounce and each coin containing point six ounces (0.6 ounces) of silver... you do the math. But we believe the value here far exceeds the face value of the coinage. Best is the nifty arts and crafts painting on the lid of the box portraying Kennedy netting his 200th goal. Obtained from the family of former Leafs' captain Ted Kennedy, complete with their signed letter of provenance.
