Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Ted Kennedy hung up his skates for the first time at the end of the 1954-55 campaign. Although he watched the entire 1955-56 season from the stands, he came out of retirement briefly to play half of the 1956-57 season to help the Leafs, who were short on players due to injuries and were struggling. He scored 22 points in 30 games, but the Leafs finished out of the playoffs. This charming presentation platter was "Presented to Ted "Teeder" Kennedy by the Board of Directors, Maple Leaf Gardens, Oct. 8, 1955", as detailed at the centre of the tray. Surrounding the inscription are the engraved signatures of all of the board members, including Conn Smyth. In near excellent condition with toning and some lighter surface scratching. Measures 25" across, from handle to handle, in copper with silver plate. Obtained from the family of former Leafs' captain Ted Kennedy, complete with their signed letter of provenance.
