At the age of 17, when he was selected by Russian coach Viktor Tikhonov to play in the Eurotour Ceska Poistovna Cup tournament, the stellar Alex Ovechkin became the youngest skater ever to play for the Russian National Team and then the youngest player ever to score for the senior squad. This historic red, white and blue Russian National Team uniform was worn by Alex during Eurotour Tournament play in 2003-04. Alex competed in the Ceska Poistovna series in addition to three more games in Finland at the Karjala Cup. The Eurotour is considered the European Championships and the games, played in Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic, are a tune up for the upcoming World Championships each year. Alex's jersey sports his famous number "8" on the back and again on each sleeve and his surname crosses a knit namebar that is sewn across the back shoulders. Made and tagged in the collar by Lutch, the whit knit/mesh combo is a size 56 and shows obvious game wear with a number of solid stick marks, a nice one-inch burn in the blue of the left shoulder, and blue paint transfer at the right elbow. A rectangular PM Physiomed Elecktomedizin sponsor patch is sewn onto the right breast and this rare patch can be spotted on the jerseys worn by Alex and his teammates captured on a hard-to-find 2004 Russian National Team hockey card set. Comes complete with a letter of authenticity from respected game worn Russian uniform dealer Brom Enterprise and a digital image of Alex wearing this style (with patch) in game play. As the legend of Ovechkin grows, so too will the importance of this sensational shirt.
