Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
Outstanding old wool for a U.S. college display is from the late-1950s or early-1960s and features nice tackle twill letters and numbers. A size 44 tag is sewn in the inner rear hem, beside another that reads "Jim McCarthy Athletic Equipment - Somerville, Mass." Research shows that McCarthy went out of business in the early-1960s, helping to date the sweater. Preserved in excellent condition, the uniform's game use includes heavy pilling, more so on the outside (front, elbows, cuffs), along with a dime-size team repair near the left elbow. A similar size hole is near the stitching of the right elbow. A dreamy cream-colored beauty that begs for additional research and that will be a wonderful addition to a Harvard/wool/college collection.
