Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Lengthy, orange dureen uniform worn by Bill Morris during pre-season tilts at the start of the 1974-75 WHA campaign. This style was worn by the Alberta Oilers in their inaugural 1972-73 season and once again in 1973-74 by the newly-named Edmonton Oilers of the World Hockey Association. Manufactured by Western Athletic Supply, this example still displays the company's tagging in the lower hem. The team scrounged these out of the equipment room and re-plated them for use in pre-season games but by the time the 1974-75 regular season got underway, the players were sporting the new Rawlings uniforms. Netminding superstar Jacques Plante is pictured in his promo photos and WHA Oilers hockey card wearing this recycled style. The current plate spells out "Morris" in chain-stitch lettering but clear evidence of a former nameplate is visible. Certainly this jersey was worn by another player the previous year for a lengthy period of regular season play. Game wear is easy to spot with numerous board burns and stick marks to accompany at least eleven stitched team repairs. A highlight is the heavy canvas and chain-stitch team crest on the chest. A stunning shirt! [red] Addendum; Further research on this jersey indicates that it would have been worn originally during the 1972-73 Alberta Oilers inaugural season by Bob Falkenburg and recycled for the 1974-75 WHA Edmonton Oilers Pre-Season and worn by Bill Morris[/red]
