Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
The glorious Detroit Red Wings championship teams of the 1950s are evoked by this striking red wool team cardigan worn by coach Jimmy Skinner. In his debut behind the Red Wings' bench in 1954-55, Skinner guided the defending Stanley Cup champions to their second straight championship, Detroit's fourth Cup in six years. Obtained directly from one of Skinner's distant relatives, this original Red Wings coach's cardigan retains its vibrant red color. Olympic Sporting Goods tag remains in the neck with size 40 and "Dry Clean Only" fly tags on either side. Six original red buttons are intact and a glorious red and white patch sewn on the left breast spells out "Red Wings" in red script with "Detroit" in block letters within the tail. This beauty is style matched to Red Wings staff in team photos from that era. A letter of authenticity accompanies this remarkable and colorful Red Wings cardigan.
