Hockey Canada set their sights high when they issued invitations to Wayne Gretzky to join the Team Canada roster for a number of late-season international tournaments throughout the Eighties. The team's training staff, in a long-standing tradition and in hopes that The Great One would accept the offer, always placed their uniform orders with an extra set of number "99" uniforms. Offered here is the red CCM Team Canada jersey ordered for use by Wayne Gretzky most likely for one of the annual Isvestia tournaments held in Russia. Wayne's familiar "99" sits on the back and sleeves and the nameplate reads "Gretzky". This example sports a large Air Canada logo on the lower front and back along with ads for Adidas and Sonntags Zeitung. The thin mesh jersey is tagged in the collar, size XL, and made in Italy. Obviously, the shirt shows no visible game use.
