Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Bold orange dureen uniform of the WHA's San Diego Mariners features the serif letters cascading down the front in a style worn in 1976-77. The left shoulder sports the team's circular "skating skipper" patch and the original string is still there in the neck. Collar tagging by Rawlings in size 48 with no fight strap in the tail. The nameplate reads "Veneruzzo" identifying winger Gary Veneruzzo, a long-time minor-leaguer who finished his career with the Mariners in 1976-77. Evidence of a plate change leads us to believe this shirt was worn by a previous player, then recycled for use by Veneruzzo. The Mariners were notorious for recycling uniforms. In nice overall condition with two stitched team repairs on the back and more stitch work at the collar where the shirt had been torn down from the tie-neck.
