On the evening of Sunday, March 12th, 1961, a mild, sunny day in Geneva, Switzerland, at about 8:30 pm, the final buzzer sounded in the beautiful arena. The scoreboard read:Canada 5 - Russia 1. The Trail Smoke Eaters had won the World Ice Hockey Championships! Canada would not repeat the achievement until 1994. A classic design of a goaltender minding his net graces the obverse of this gold-toned medal, presented to a member of the victorious Canadian squad, and this is ringed by the words Chamionnat du Monde, World Championships with 1961 engraved onto a plate below. The reverse shows the IIHF logo with International Ice Hockey Federation in English and French. This stunning award is in excellent-plus condition with a slightly toned area on the back. A scarce and important memento of a great moment in Canadian hockey history.
