George Louis Chuvalo, former heavyweight boxer, was never knocked down in ninety-three professional fights between 1956 and 1979. He was Canadian heavyweight champion as both an amateur and a professional, and twice fought for versions of the professional world's heavyweight title. Best known for his two pro fights against Muhammad Ali, Chuvalo wore this pair of red leather Spartan gloves in a bout held on November 26th, 1966 in St. Johns, New Brunswick against Dave Russell. The details of the fight are marked on one gloves in neat white paint including the notation “KO’d 2nd Rd” and the matching glove is labeled with “Trained by Freddie Brown, Managed by I. Ungerman”. The gloves show obvious use and evidence of tape removal. From the personal collection of Irving Ungerman. Canada’s premier boxing promoter and manager of championship-class boxers, Irv Ungerman was the first person ever elected to the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame in 1973.
