The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
The Detroit Red Wings wore a special patch on their jersey throughout the 1981-82 season in honor of the Norris family’s 50 years as owners right before the team was sold to Mike Ilitch in June 1982. Defenceman Greg Smith had career highs with 10 goals and 154 penalty minutes that season, his first with the Red Wings after he was acquired from Minnesota. The nylon mesh jersey features a curious fight strap that includes a white leather strap attached to a pair of white canvas strips sewn inside the back of the jersey. The jersey exhibits fantastic game use with extensive team repairs, some unrepaired holes and cuts, and stick and puck marks galore. The Sandow Sporting Knit SK size large and washing instruction tags sewn into the neck are fairly washed out. The SK tag has a number 1 written on it in black marker. A red twill team crest features white embroidery and the individual numbers are sewn directly onto the jersey while indivdual white twill letters are sewn onto a red mesh nameplate.
