The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
Glen Sather was traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the New York Rangers on January 26, 1971 for Syl Apps, Jr. This lot includes the original Standard Assignment Agreement filed with the NHL with respect to the trade along with Sather’s original 1971-72 contract with the Rangers. The assignment agreement is signed by Rangers GM Emile Francis and Pittsburgh’s Jack Riley, both in blue ink, and the agreement is stamped February 15, 1971 by the NHL head office with red initials. Sather’s one-year contract calls for a $25,000 salary with incremental $1,000 bonuses for each higher position the Rangers finish in the regular season, beginning with third place, bonuses for the team allowing less than 195 goals, being a “plus” player and shutouts. The contract bears the original blue ink signatures of Sather, Francis, and NHL president Clarence Campbell. A fantastic pair of original documents from a player who went on to become one of hockey’s greatest executives.
