The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
The Montreal Canadiens got a boost from an outstanding crop of rookies in 1963-64, led by left wing John Ferguson and defenceman Jacques Laperriere. The two newcomers would go to win five Stanley Cups over the following seven seasons, with Laperriere adding his sixth in nine seasons in 1972-73. Laperriere beat out Ferguson to win the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year. Ken Dryden (1972) is the only other Canadiens player to win the award since then as Jacques Lemaire (1968), Chris Chelios (1984) and Michael Ryder (2004) each finished second in Calder voting. This wonderful replica trophy was produced in recent years by Boffey and presented to Laperriere. Mounted on a tiered wood base with rounded corners measuring 6 ¼” wide at the bottom, this trophy stands 12 ½” tall from the bottom of base to the lip of the cup. A 2 ½” inch wide plaque reads, “JACQUES LAPERRIERE, MONTREAL CANADIENS, 1963-64”. The 7 5/8” tall trophy is a faithful replica of the actual Calder Memorial Trophy, which is engraved in script across the front of the bowl with the following below, “To be awarded annually to the player selected as the most proficient in the first year of competition in the National Hockey League”. This fantastic trophy comes with Jacques Laperriere’s signed letter of authenticity.
