The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
The Montreal Canadiens won their third Stanley Cup in four seasons in 1967-68, putting the bad taste of the previous season’s upset loss to Toronto in the finals behind them. This was coach Toe Blake’s final hurrah behind the Habs’ bench as he went out on top with his eighth Cup in 13 seasons as a coach after winning three as a player. It was also the last final at the Montreal Forum prior to its extensive renovation over the course of the summer of 1968 and the first final of the expansion era as Montreal swept the St. Louis Blues in four straight games. Beliveau’s name is engraved as team captain beneath Blake’s and under the heading “CLUB DE HOCKEY CANADIEN INC., 1967/68 SEASON”, followed by the rest of the team’s players: Backstrom, Cournoyer, Duff, Ferguson, Grant, Harper, Harris, Laperriere, Larose, Vachon, Worsley, Lemaire, Provost, Redmond, Richard, Rousseau, Savard, Gilles Tremblay, J.C. Tremblay, Vadnais and Wakely. This silver-plated trophy was presented to Jacques Laperriere by the NHL, which commissioned the 12 ½” tall replica from noted silversmith Carl Poul Petersen. Laperriere, who won the Norris Trophy and was named to the First
All-Star Team for the second straight season in 1966, has signed the green felt bottom underneath the black wood base. The trophy remains in excellent condition and it comes with Laperriere’s signed letter of authenticity. A fantastic collectors’ item from the Canadiens’ “Forgotten Dynasty” of the late-1960s, a team that won four Cups in five years from 1965-69.
