Adam Foote Team Canada 2006 Olympic exhibition game worn white jersey. Number 52 in size 58, signed on the chest.
Wayne Gretzky put together a seemingly invincible team for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games held in Turin, Italy. With Brodeur in net, Pronger and Blake along the blue line and Sakic, Iginla, Thornton, Heatley, St. Louis and Nash up front, Canada looked like the team to beat… on paper. After a strong opening exhibition match against Italy and another good showing versus the Germans, the boys were shut out twice in the next three games and failed to score once more in a loss to Russia that eliminated Canada from medal contention. Gretzky first assembled what would be come his team back in the summer of 2005, bringing together 36 superstars for an orientation camp held Aug. 15 – 19 in Vancouver and Kelowna, BC. Topping the list of invitees were veterans Mario Lemieux, Joe Sakic and Steve Yzerman. The roster was split into two squads, each practicing for one session per day (in practice jerseys with no names or numbers) and then playing a RED vs. WHITE exhibition game in front of a general admission crowd. In total, four of these exhibition matches were played during the camp. We are proud to offer forty-one of these 2006 Team Canada Olympic Exhibition Game Worn Uniforms worn by the talented members of the Red and White teams, many of whom would go on to form the 2006 Canadian Olympic Mens Hockey Team.
Each heavy weight air knit Nike uniform sports the sewn-on tackle twill crest of Hockey Canada on the chest with the Nike “swoosh” up on the right breast. The back holds another “swoosh” above the “Respect” stop sign patch and each players surname running across a plate with the player number below in single color tackle twill. The sewn-on IIHF crest decorates the bottom hem and a heavy-duty fight strap is sewn into the tail. Tagging includes a large Nike Team Sports label in the neck holding the size designation with the IIHF label and “Made in Canada” fly tag sewn below. A washing label is also attached to the inner side seam.
Each historic jersey has been autographed by the player, either on the chest or front crest. Game wear varies from very light to those displaying a number of stick marks and slashes. Purchased directly from Team Canada, each uniform will come with a detailed Letter of Authenticity signed by Hockey Canada President, Bob Nicholson.
