Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - March 2007
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/27/2007
Impressive gold memento was produced after the Winnipeg Jets captured the 1978-79 Avco Cup World Trophy for the third time in four seasons, capping off a successful seven-year run in the World Hockey Association. Presented to goaltender Joe Daley, a member of the Jets for each of those seven seasons, the ring incorporates three diamonds into the Jets logo on the tableau, with “WHA Champions” encircling it. One shank includes the team’s name, its Avco Cup championship seasons, its seven years in the WHA and a “NHL ‘79” mention. A likeness of the Avco Cup is on the other shank along with “Daley” and “1979”. Stamped “Josten’s 10K” on the interior of the band where a scripted “Wpg 7 - Edm 3” references the score of the Jets’ clinching victory over a young Gretzky and the Oilers, the size 9 ring shows moderate wear and is in excellent condition. From a very proud time in Winnipeg hockey history!
