The 4th overall selection at the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, Larry Murphy spent over two decades in the NHL. The Scarborough native holds the NHL record for Most Points by a Rookie Defenceman in a Single Season, with four Stanley Cup championships also won during his lengthy career. We have a photo-matched Pittsburgh Penguins jersey worn by the star in 1991-92, a Stanley Cup championship season! A Maska label and size “52” fly tag remain affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with the particular Penguins team crest with embroidered detailing that saw use from 1986 until only the end of this season, “55” appears over the sleeves and verso in oversized black-over-white tackle twill, with the NHL 75th anniversary crest over the right breast. There is also a Penguins 25th anniversary crest over the right shoulder and “Badger” memorial crest for Bob Johnston over the left.
Dark marks are present over the front and sleeves, with a bit of red paint transfer over the right elbow. There is also pilling beneath the fight strap and right armpit, with 8 team repairs on the right sleeve, 9 over the left and a single example over the lower front. An included numeric image has been matched to the black mark on the top left of the 75th patch, to the small black mark at the left of the "55" on the right sleeve and to a pair of black marks on the lower front left hem just above the yellow stripe.
