Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Originally drafted 65th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Kris Letang has spent his entire National Hockey League career with the franchise that first called out his name, suiting up in nearly 1100 games over the course of 18-years as of this writing. A three-time Stanley Cup champion (2009, 2016 and 2017) who has also represented Canada internationally, winning back-to-back gold medals at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in 2006 and 2007, offered here is this lot of Letang equipment that includes three (3) pairs of his gloves, three (3) of his laundry bags and two (2) of his locker room nameplates.
Starting with the three (3) sets of gloves, worn between the 2009-10 and 2015-16 seasons, the mitts are made by either Warrior (MiA from 2009-10 and AX1 models circa 2015-16) or Bauer (BH Pro) and are found in the Penguins colours of black, white and/or Vegas gold. With the Warrior MiA set having had identifiers reading "Letang" stitched into the cuffs and his number "58" embroidered above the thumb, the AX1 gauntlets have had "Legend" embroidered into each cuff as well. With each pair having had Warrior word mark logos screened on across the cuffs and additional logos either embedded or sewn on over both thumbs, both of the Warrior pairs show use via various marks and abrasions over the outside of each while the palms both show rubbing. Of note, on the MiA model pair there is a stitched repair in the left palm while on the AX1 pair both palms have large holes in them. Finally, for the Bauer pair, the BH Pro model gloves hail from around 2010-11 based on research and were likely only used in practice as Letang was donning Easton mitts almost exclusively in game around this time except for the odd Warrior pair. Once again presenting in Pittsburgh's colours with "Letang 58" embroidered into each cuff, "Bauer" is embroidered into both cuffs as well while the pair shows light use via a small number of marks and abrasions throughout the exterior and some light rubbing of the palms.
Also including a trio of Penguins laundry bags that were issued for use by Letang, all three (3) are made of mesh and either yellow, grey or black in colour and are made of a lightweight mesh construction. With all having patches sewn over their fronts that show Letang's number "58" as well as a Penguins logo while showing signs of having been used and washed multiple times, the lot is rounded out with a pair of Letang locker room nameplates, one from the NHL Stadium Series in 2017 that is accompanied by a Penguins COA and one from the 2018 NHL All-Star Game Skills Competition that sports a Fanactics hologram affixed to its reverse side with both displaying well and without issue while showcasing just light wear from use. Furthermore, COA's from Double Deke Hockey will accompany both the yellow and black coloured laundry bags and the MiA gloves have been photo-matched with Getty Image #91385370 (October 3rd, 2009 vs New York) to wear patterns in the Warrior logo over the left cuff and are also accompanied by a COA from Double Deke Hockey.
