Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Drafted by Hartford but playing his first three NHL seasons with Pittsburgh, Kevin McClelland would then play parts of seven seasons with Edmonton, which included winning four Stanley Cup championships with the club. The final component to the Oilers dynasty during the Gretzky era, the 1988 Stanley Cup championship exhibited Edmonton's complete dominance, losing only two playoff matches before defeating Boston four-straight in the finals.
We are pleased to offer a Kevin McClelland 1988 Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup championship 14K gold and diamond ring, with this specimen produced for the star winger in the subsequent years after the Oilers Stanley Cup conquest in 1988, possibly for a friend or a family member. Size 10 1/2 with an approx weight of 35 grams, four large zirconia grace a sea of additional zirconia on the the tableau, representing the Oilers dynasty’s fourth Stanley Cup win in five seasons, and the team’s last with Wayne Gretzky as captain. "1988 Stanley Cup Champions" is displayed in raised gold on the bezel surrounding the dazzling tableau. An Oilers logo is featured between "McClelland" and "24" on the left shank (the original rings made for team members had an enamel Oilers logo), while the right shank displays "Oilers" along the top in raised letters, with the team's championship seasons listed on four Stanley Cups displayed below. "Balfour 14K" is stamped to the inside band, which shows evidence of being resized. Regarding condition, there is considerable wear throughout from use, with numerous scratches to the band and shanks, with a number of small dings along edges. There is also some wear from rubbing to the raised letters on the bezel.
