First gaining notoriety in his homeland of Sweden, Kent Nilsson would be drafted by both the Atlanta Flames of the National Hockey League (64th overall) and the Toronto Toros of the World Hockey Association (11th overall) in 1976 and would get his first North American professional experience as a member of the Winnipeg Jets between 1977 and 1979 before making the jump to the NHL in 1979-80. Going on to play a total of 553 NHL games with Atlanta/Calgary, Minnesota and Edmonton and currently sitting 7th all-time 562 in Atlanta/Calgary's franchise history, offered here is this photo-matched Flames jersey worn by Nilsson during the 1980-81 season, the team's first in their new home north of the border. A Maska made offering that is void of any brand labeling affixed to the inner collar, a faded washing instructions label is affixed to the shoulder seam and displays a size "50" designation while the Maska logo has been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a Flames team crest in stacked tri-layer tackle twill style, the sleeves and verso have had Nilsson's number "14" sewn on in dual layer white-over-yellow tackle twill numerals while "Nilsson" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed red twill nameplate at the top of the reverse. Absolutely hammered with game-wear throughout, stick marks are observed over the front, reverse and both sleeves of the garment while board burns are prominently displayed on both sleeves as well. With a couple of small unrepaired holes also gracing each sleeve along with small red coloured board paint transfer marks, heavy pilling is observed both inside and out as well with the original ribbon style fight strap still present on the interior. With more red paint transfer found over the hemline, team repairs totaling no fewer than 45+ by our count are strewn throughout the entirety of the piece. Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #53362674 (Undated - 1980-81 season), to numerous dark stick marks over the front of the piece and through the team crest. An LOA will accompany the piece.**ADDENCUM**Further research shows that the nameplate of the jersey was removed by the team when the jersey was issued for use in the follow year's pre-season and then was reattached by them when it was offered for sale to the public, a common practice by Calgary during the era.
