Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Originally drafted 188th overall by the Edmonton Oilers at the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, Kelly Buchberger would go on to play a total of 1182 games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Edmonton, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Pittsburgh, Buchberger would also represent Team Canada on a trio of occasions, winning gold at the 1994 IIHF World Championships. Offered here, we present this Penguins jersey worn by Buchberger during his final NHL season of 2003-04. Made by Koho, a lone size "56" label that has had "7A" penned to it in black marker ink is affixed to the inner collar while a Koho logo patch is in place over the reverse neckline. Having had the NHL shield emblem embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey has been decorated with a Penguins team crest that features embroidered details throughout its entirety. Sporting the distinguished alternate captain's "A" over the left breast and matching alternate logo patches atop of both shoulders, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Buchberger's number "7" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while "Buchberger" has been spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior as well as a Penguins team tag that denotes the jersey as being a "Set #1 - 2003-04" example, the jersey shows heavy game-wear including numerous team repairs throughout, pilling over the front hem and stick marks, board burns and coloured board paint transfers over both sleeves. Also showing additional coloured paint transfers in the area of the left hip and a couple of small unrepaired holes over the right sleeve, the jersey is accompanied by a Penguins COA and has been photo-matched with an Alamy image from December 1st, 2003 vs Atlanta which shows a match to the small unrepaired holes in the gold stripe of the right sleeve.
