Named the CHL Rookie of the Year in 2006 and CHL Player of the Year in 2007, John Tavares entered the OHL after gaining "exceptional player" status at just 14, allowing Oshawa to select him as an underage player in 2005. Dealt to the London Knights at the 2009 OHL trade deadline, Tavares played just 24 regular season games for the club, breaking the OHL career-goal record after surpassing Peter Lee with his 214th marker on March 8th 2009. From that record-breaking season, we have a photo-matched Knights jersey worn by the superstar. A Reebok label and CCM “56” size tag sit affixed to the collar, with an embroidered CCM crest over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with “Knights” placed diagonally across the chest in individual tackle twill letters, the solid green tie-neck has been accented with sleeve and verso numbers in matching material, with alternate team crests over each shoulder.
A few washed-out stick marks are visible over the lower front and over both the reverse and right sleeve’s numbers, with an additional stick mark over the nameplate. There is also a bit of loose threading in spots, with the jersey in otherwise gorgeous condition. The team patch is situated over the inside hem, and it denotes “Game Worn”. It should also be noted that both photo-matches hail from March 5th 2009, an evening that witnessed John secure both his 53rd and 54th goals of the season, with this bringing his OHL career total to 211, just three shy of the record. Getty Image #85311035 has been matched to the loose white thread on the lower right edge of the OHL patch, and to the two green loose threads on the left side of the collar, while Getty Image #85310990 has been matched to the loose white thread on the lower right edge of the OHL patch, and to the black material showing on the top right edge of the "K" of Knights.
