Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

A rare and important style hailing from the club’s inaugural season in 1982-83, we have a New Jersey Devils jersey that originates from the team’s first season in East Rutherford after the Rockies relocated from Colorado, with this particular example prepared for Joel Quenneville. Examples from this set of jerseys are known to have been recycled for the 1987-88 pre-season, and with photos of the Devils during the 1982-83 pre-season showing players with no nameplate’s present, we’re unsure if this rare style jersey was ever worn in either pre-season or regular season games. The program from the Devils’ second home game of the 1982-83 season pictures Don Lever wearing a jersey from this particular set, although unsure if the photo is from a photo shoot or the pre-season. First season uniforms from noteworthy clubs are highly desirable, with this sweater ideal as the centerpiece for any advanced Devils’ collection.
A perfect Gerry Cosby label along with size swatch and laundering instructions sit affixed to the collar, with rubberized Sandow and Cosby logos in solid red gracing the reverse bottom hem. Styled with the original Devils team crest in use until slightly modified in 1986, the red mesh-style V-neck has been embellished with large tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “Quenneville” across the nameplate in matching material. A loop-style fight strap has also been utilized. With no wear or unsightly damage of any kind, this first year specimen remains in wonderful condition.
