Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A legend of the game, Joe Thornton, one of the greatest centers in NHL history, spent his
lone season with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020-21, helping lead the team to a first-place
finish in the North Division during a unique, all-Canadian season caused by the NHL’s
temporary realignment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This Toronto Maple Leafs specialty jersey was worn by Thornton during the pre-game warm-up
on Canadian Armed Forces Night on Saturday, March 20th, 2021, ahead of a 2-0 victory over
the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Arena. Accompanied by an official team Letter of Authenticity
(LOA), the jersey remains unblemished with no noticeable wear, as it was only used during
warm-ups.
Displaying an Adidas brand band with “60” sizing and a “Made in Canada” designation, the inner
collar also features the same sizing information repeated on a patch located just below it. The
heat-pressed Catstitch logo is placed above the fight strap on the interior, adding to its
authenticity.
Designed in a distinctive black and army green colorway, this jersey features a printed-on Maple
Leafs crest with paint-splattered accents. Thornton’s number “97” is sewn onto both sleeves and
the back in white. His last name “THORNTON” is also sewn in white lettering across the affixed
nameplate at the top of the back. A Canadian flag patch is sewn onto the right shoulder, while a
special “I Salute” patch is affixed with Velcro above the left sleeve numbers.
A fantastic 1 of 1 collectible from Thornton’s only season in Toronto, this warm-up worn jersey is
a tribute to both his time with the Maple Leafs and the team’s recognition of Canada’s military.
