Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
From Ralph Wilson Stadium, which was transformed into an NHL rink to become the 2008 NHL Winter Classic, the first NHL regular-season outdoor game ever held in the U.S., we have a Penguins game-worn jersey from that big day, donned by Jeff Taffe during the second period, with this Throwback jersey tagged in the collar as a size "58". A vintage style team crest has been utilized, along with dual-colour tackle twill numbers. On the right breast is a sewn-on "Winter Classic 2008" patch, while on the inside hem is a "Penguins/Winter Classic" patch, along with a "MeiGray" patch with numbers that correspond with the accompanying LOA. With no discernible game-wear, the jersey remains in wonderful condition.
We should also note that according to the MeiGray population report the jersey is a "Blue Throwback - Winter Classic 1/1/08 (Period 2) - Worn During The 2nd Period Of The Winter Classic On 1/1/08"
