Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

A Stanley Cup champion with the Montreal Canadiens in 1924, James Ogilvie "Odie" Cleghorn was a member of the famous Renfrew Creamery Kings, with later seasons spent with both the Habs and Wanderers before concluding his noteworthy career as a playing-coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a typed letter signed by the former star. At 8 ½” x 11”, the single page letter dated “February 13, 1947” has Cleghorn apologizing for not being able to locate one of his playing-days photos to send. The large fountain pen signature stands out wonderfully with no issues. Suffering heart failure in 1956 just hours before the funeral of his brother, former NHL superstar and Hall of Fame member Sprague Cleghorn, Odie was 64.
Exhibiting toning along with some edge wear, the letter also sports numerous fold lines, with a pair of punched holes along the top border for binder insertion.
