Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Legendary goalie Jacques Plante resurrected his NHL career with the expansion St. Louis Blues of the late-1960s. Jake the Snake used this Victoriaville Pro gamer when he teamed with Glenn Hall to give the Blues a Hall of Fame tandem in nets. Plante’s original vintage tape jobs on remain on the blade, paddle and knob, which is now loose. “Plante” is stamped below the knob and "Winterland Chalet, Brigdeton, MO" and "Mailhot & Frere Inc" are also stamped on the shaft. Game wear features red goalpost paint transfer on the paddle high on the back of the shaft. A cool piece used by the deceased HOFer who introduced the goalie mask to the NHL and revolutionized the way his position is played.
There is a small nail hole on the toe of the blade, and chips to the top edge of the shaft at the level of the “Plante” stamp. There is a chip in the crack in the middle of the paddle, which may be the result of aging.
