Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
A six-time Stanley Cup champion in only 11 seasons while with the Habs in the 1950s and early-1960s, Jacques Plante was one of the first netminders who could competently handle the puck outside of the crease. We have a stick used by the Hall of Famer during his time with Toronto in 1971-72, and it's been signed and dedicated. A Sherbrooke model, “J Plante” and “Maple Leafs” appear on the upper shaft, with the original tape in place over the blade, paddle and knob. Good use is exhibiting on the stick with heavy wear to the underside of the blade along with a separation that runs down the edge of the paddle and through the blade. There's also clear tape that's been added in spots to reinforce the paddle. Plante has signed on the upper shaft in red, adding “To Torchy Best Wishes”, with the date of March 15, 1972 handwritten.
