Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017

The man responsible for modernizing the goaltending position in the 1950s, Jacques Plante was not only the first to regularly don facial protection, the HOFer also frequently vacated his net to handle the puck, a precursor to later puck handling masters like Martin Brodeur. We have a neat grouping of Plante items, with a replica mask, a “mask” display with signature cut and a copy of “L’epopee des Canadiens”, signed by the legend. The mask is a full-sized copy expertly executed, with a standing base and name plaque, while the 19 ½” x 25 ½” display with cut features images of both Plante and his mask, with the ballpoint signature cut on the bottom right, and it displays well with no loss or fading. The signature within the copy of “L’epopee des Canadiens” is a ballpoint example at the top of the first page, and it is flawless.
The replica mask is attached to a plexiglas stand (as mentioned – can be removed if desired), with a name plaque in both French and English. According to our consignor, this mask was originally displayed at the Montreal Forum. The display with signature cut is in wonderful condition with no issues to report, while the copy of “L’epopee des Canadiens” remains in very good condition, with some wear to the cover including creasing.
